Spain Alzira ESC European Solidarity Corps Our volunteer has two main tasks: 1. Hosting conversation sessions. You will run conversation sessions for both teachers and students. Currently, there are 3 weekly sessions for teachers and 3 weekly sessions for students. This involves preparing conversation topics and working with a group of students with a broad range of English language skills as well as trying to keep them motivated to practice and improve. 2. Coordinating our Erasmus programme. With the help of the Erasmus coordinator, you will perform some of the administrative tasks associated with helping our students go abroad for their traineeships. This involves some emails and the occasional phone call, contacting and chasing up companies, following up with students and making sure all the paperwork is done correctly and on time.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
ABOUT IDEA: IDEA is the coordinating organisation for this project. They are part of the local council and handle all the practical and financial aspects of the project. Having coordinated projects for years, they are very friendly and know what they are doing. IDEA will provide you with accommodation as well as pocket money and an expenses allowance . The two combined currently come to just over 300 euros. As IDEA coordinates multiple projects (there are currently 15 ESC volunteers in Alzira), you will be sharing a flat with two to three other ESC volunteers.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
Our school is a vocational training centre: we offer a wide range of courses from administrative management to heating and air conditioning installation for students from the age of 16 and older. We give our volunteer the opportunity to enrol as a student and take one of our modules if they wish to do so. IDEA currently also provide the volunteers with bikes as well as access to municipal leisure facilities and Spanish classes (three hours a week).
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
VOLUNTEER PROFILE: As they will be teaching English, the volunteer must have a high level of English language proficiency (C1 or higher). Teaching experience is a plus but not required. More important is that the volunteer be motivated and flexible as well as determined in order to keep the conversation sessions running throughout the entirety of the school year and develop a positive relationship with students. An intermediate level of Spanish will aid the volunteer in integrating better into the community but is not essential.
