Mugla is one of the most beautiful and popular tourist destinations located in the Aegean region of Turkey. It is a lovely city with its traditional old houses, narrow streets, surprising history, fascinating natural beauty, stunning coves, crystal clear waters, majestic ancient cities and lively daily life. Every year travelers from all around the world come to Mugla to witness the natural beauty and ancient history.
The province of Mugla is situated on the southwest corner of Turkey, at the intersection of the Aegean and the Mediterranean. It has been ruled by the Caria, Lycia, Persian, Macedonian civilizations and by the Mentesogullari Seigniory and the Ottoman Empire. The city has 6000 year old history.
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality developed a project in the framework of South Aegean Development Agency Grant Programme called “ Culture and Tourism Finance Support Programme”
This project is named as “Muğla Mobile Culture and Tourism Application: CITIZEN” which is based on Smart City Technologies and Innovative Communication Technics.
The overall objective of the project; the promotion of cultural tourism in Mugla province, one of Turkey’s tourism centers, by the way of mobile Technologies – mobile devices and to create added value with the increasing potential of tourism.
Specific objectives of project;
– Identifying and disseminating 210 cultural tourism region in Muğla
– Programming a mobile culture tourism network application in Muğla
– Dissemination of cultural tourism in Muğla and South Aegean Region
– Promoting cultural tourism which is one of the alternative tourism areas in Muğla
– Increasing regional cultural tourism data by 10% through mobile applications, Beacon, NFC, Location Based Messaging and QR Code.
In the framework of project, 210 signboard were placed at different location including museums, historical places, tourism regions, mosque and cultural tourism points.
Signboards have Beacon, NFC, Location Based Messaging and QR Code technology. When you draw near any region, you will warn by mobile application ( push message), and mobile application will inform you about region by visual and written format. If you don’t have application in your mobile device, signboards will provide download link by Beacon, NFC or QR Code technology.
Within the scope of project, for designated areas High Resolution – HD videos were made and history of places were examined.
Mobile application is also available in Turkish, English, German and Russian langıuages.
Project was developed by Onur Ceylan ( Electrical Engineer) and Gökhan Turgut Ünal ( Expert) in the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality. Mobile application and other Technologies were developed by Taptoweb Information Technologies.
