Belgium Mechelen ESC YFU Flanders (Belgium) is offering an internship starting September 1st 2022 until August 31st 2023. ‘Coloured glasses’ refers to the cultural filters through which we observe and interpret reality. In YFU, Coloured Glasses has come to refer to a set of tolerance workshops designed to build young people’s cultural self-awareness and foster cultural understanding. Main task package: ● Planning: ○ Communication with client organisations to organize the details with the contact person (date, location, size and age of participant group, topic deliverables of each workshop) and book the Coloured Glasses workshops. ○ Prepare the workshops (content, presentation material, group discussions, etc.) ● Participation: ○ Lead the workshop on site. ● Follow-up: ○ Administration: keep track of filled-in evaluation and registration forms returned by the students/organisations. ○ Investigate possibilities online approach to Coloured Glasses. ● Assistance at YFU office, Mechelen
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
● You will receive a monthly food allowance (225€) and monthly pocket money (125€). ● We will pay for your language course, and you will be able to take part in Online Linguistic Support. ● We will get you a bus pass. ● You will be living in a student accommodation nearby the YFU Flanders office together with other ESC volunteers doing projects in the area. ● YFU Flanders reimburses your transportation costs to travel to locations where Coloured Glasses workshops take place.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
At the start of the internship you will participate in a 4-day training event for Coloured Glasses trainers. During the internship you will receive language training in Flemish/Dutch.
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
● You are enthusiastic and outgoing and have a good knowledge of YFU or international student organizations. Preferably you have been an exchange student yourself. ● Communication will be initially in English. However, mastering the Dutch language quickly is essential for your communication tasks. We will sponsor your language course in Flanders. ● Volunteers experienced in working with children/teenagers, or have teaching abilities, are highly welcome. Those experienced in non-formal education are ideal candidates. ● Needs to travel independently throughout Flanders by public transport.
